Various options are available for researchers who want to use Elsevier APIs:

  • Elsevier APIs are available to eligible customers, approved partners and other authorized integrations with a valid entitlement. Registering for or holding an API key does not by itself grant access to Elsevier data or content. Access is enabled only after the applicable entitlement or approval has been confirmed.
  • Commercial Users (Researchers in Private Sector & Commercial Institutions): APIs are available (for commercial use), with an API license and subscription, please contact us here to discuss your request

About the APIs

Get programmatic access to:

  • Citation data, metadata, and abstracts from scholarly journals, as indexed by Scopus, Elsevier's citation database.kl
  • Full-text journals and books published by Elsevier on the ScienceDirect full-text platform.
  • Research metrics available on SciVal, Elsevier's platform for research performance benchmarking.
  • Engineering resources available on Engineering Village..
  • Curated abstracts, indices and other metadata indexed by Embase, Elsevier's biomedical abstract and indexing database.
  • Reactions, chemical structures & chemistry information from Reaxys, Elsevier's expert curated chemistry database.

Elsevier APIs are available to eligible customers, approved partners and other authorized integrations with a valid entitlement. Registering for or holding an API key does not by itself grant access to Elsevier data or content. Access is enabled only after the applicable entitlement or approval has been confirmed.

APIs are also available for OAuth authentication; for electronic holdings exchange in KBART format and for checking a user's access rights for specific publications. These APIs are made available to customers and partners upon request, subject to approval.
